You showed us your stunning kitchen transformations. Now see which ones were finalists in our Reader Remodel Contest, as picked by you and the editors of This Old House
We created a breakfast bar, added a floating cork floor, and increased storage with Shaker-style cabinets. We used period-style fixtures, local Vermont soapstone, subway tile, glass cabinet pulls, locally made Mason-jar pendants, and sleek yet practical stainless steel. A microwave drawer and cabinet-depth fridge help make the space efficient, and the U-shape counter allows more cooks in the kitchen.
Who did the work: I did some of the work myself, but a contractor did most of it. Cost: $50,000 to $100,000
