Salvage and Architectural Vision: After
Who: Wendy G.S.
Where: Westfield, N.Y.
We gutted it completely and tore off the two attached garages, raised the roof for a second story, and added two bedrooms and a full bath, a front porch, an entryway, and a sunroom on the first floor. It took us five years to complete, and we tried to use as much salvaged material as possible in our renovation. We were lucky to find old pine floorboards under layers of linoleum and Masonite. We added an old door on a barn-door track for the bathroom, a salvaged gym floor in the downstairs bedroom, and salvaged tin for the entryway ceiling.
Who did the work: I did some of the work myself, but a contractor did most of it.
Cost: $50,000 to $100,000
