Before moving, I sanded and refinished the wood floors. The house received a new gabled roof system built over the existing flat roof, which permitted us to add more insulation and proper venting. We extended a bedroom upstairs and relocated the laundry room to the second floor, then gutted and renovated a kitchen and powder room on the first level. I demolished a porch to replace a sanitary pipe that had collapsed, and installed footing drains, foundation waterproofing, and insulation before backfilling. We installed new windows throughout the house. I removed all clapboard and reinsulated walls, rebuilt all the windowsill plates, installed flashing and sheathing, and sided the house with white cedar shingles.
Who did the work: I did most of the work myself. Cost: More than $100,000
