We Set Rules for Renovating: Before

Who: Jim Z.
Where: Easton, Conn.

When we purchased this 1938 Colonial Revival, it had virtually been untouched since it was built. The exterior was hard to see because of overgrown vegetation, but we could tell the house was structurally sound and had great bones. The interior was dated to say the least. Everything inside and out would have to be redone. Before starting our work, we made rules for ourselves: We'd maintain the original footprint and layout and favor restoration over renovation.
