All seven windows were replaced with energy-efficient units. The front door was replaced with a modern unit as well. Carpets were torn up, and the original floors were refinished. The walls were painted an olive green with off-white trim. An entirely new mantel with plenty of storage and display space was built around the existing fireplace. Crown molding was installed, as well as additional baseboard molding. The room was brightened with recessed lights above the seating area and a ceiling fan.
