Tool Test: Compound Miter Saws

"Chop saws" are the fastest, neatest, and most accurate way to cut wood to length. Called "compound" for their ability to cut a miter and a bevel at the same time, these 15-amp saws all have big, 12-inch blades that will sever stock with a single downward pull. Some tilt left (single bevel), others tilt both ways (dual bevel), a time-saver when cutting lots of crown molding. Carpenter John Fitzpatrick tested each saw with its stock blade on lumber and hardwood trim. Currently owner of J.
