Philadelphia might be one of the many U.S. cities in deep water—literally—if sea levels rise even a miniscule amount. Parts of as many as 30 states are at risk of being underwater in coming years.
We can thank our good friend Global Warming for this. Okay, sure, Miami, New Orleans, even New York City—these projections have been a long time coming. But Philly? Studies suggest that a mere 1-meter increase could submerge downtown and riverfront areas of the City of Brotherly Love, the sixth most populated city in the U.S. The results: displacement of Philly's 1 million residents, massive property destruction, and water contamination.
