We built our own beadboard cabinets and added undermount lighting. We also installed kid-proof engineered wood flooring, made sense of a floating fridge by custom building a cabinet surround, and created an inviting seating area for two bay windows. We did it all on a budget—less than $8,000—by doing all the work ourselves (except for the countertop installation) and taking the time to find deals on the granite and appliances.
