Restoring a small 1850s dependency as our retirement home was a labor of love. The house has less than 1,000 sq. feet of living space. The room that would be our bedroom would be one of 4 rooms in the house. The house sat vacant since the 1970s, and being open to the elements and the remnants of a fire, the place was uninhabitable. We had to start the bedroom work from the exterior brick walls in. The window frames were repaired and repainted. All the sashes had to be replaced with replicas of the original ones.
