Cabinet lighting is rope lighting concealed behind the trim. Overall, what was unique about this endeavor was how I design and built the entire project. Each of the bookcase units have a hidden area behind the backs so I could route the rope light cables, then pull them through the hollow mantel to the power switch. I also created a hollow wall cavity to route the TV wires to the hidden audio/video equipment. I can run the A/V equipment via an IR extender, so I don't have to open the cabinet doors. In the end, my wife and I love how this has added value to our home.

Who did the work: I did all the work myself
Cost: Under $1,000
