When we first moved into our home there was a large blank wall with oak cabinets in the corner, and an oak mantel hanging on two brackets. We first had to demo the wall and the tile glued to the wallboard. We then purchased and installed granite tiles from our hardware store. Next came the wall unit I constructed with off-the-shelf materials from my local hardware store. The cabinets and bookcases were made from plywood cut to size, the mantel and trim was constructed from MDF, and the cove molding was stock material.
