Every weekend for 11 months we endured chaos and exhaustion, learning as we went along and begging for help from relatives. My brother-in-law built the cabinets that enclose the fridge. Together, we did just about everything. We even made the range hood and a dish rack, although a metalworker made the range backsplash, the sink, and a new top for an old table we had, turning it into an island. Now the kitchen's a paradise, with no snakes!
