The plan was to combine two back-of-the-house nooks to make a laundry-pantry-mudroom. “This 5-by-7-foot space that runs parallel to my kitchen was once two separate areas: a pantry and a mudroom," said Youmans. "I wanted to take down the dividing wall and create a space that served the old purposes but also let the washer and dryer come up out of the basement.”
