My husband and I renovated our kitchen this past year in addition to simultaneously tackling the replacement of all the old plumbing and wiring. We insulated the entire ceiling, covered it with beadboard, and added crown molding. The lower cabinetry, which was made of solid plywood, was retained to save money. The doors had to be remade to match the Shaker style, but all the drawers and cabinets themselves were saved and re-used. We also saved money by buying appliances and fixtures on clearance and using salvaged materials wherever possible.
