Creative Recycling
As America's manufacturing plants close almost daily, customers can walk through the doors of our shop, fs20 in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and find comfort knowing not all of our country's venerable industrial past is being lost. My business partner, Gayle Kipp, and I offer scavenged pieces, such as wood-topped work tables, steel utility bins, and polished aluminum pendant lights, from shuttered factories that can now be repurposed for use in the home.
Before opening our store about 10 years ago, we filled our own homes with used items rather than new, feeling that historical relics were much more interesting to live with. Their time-honored designs never really grow old.
With trends today turning more green, we can proudly say we’ve been big time recyclers for years. And we are thankful not just to the homeowners who share our passion for all things old and industrial, but also to design professionals who shop here like Matt Berman, whose firm Workshop/APD, recently won the Brad Pitt-sponsored Global Green Sustainable Design Competition for New Orleans. Clothing companies such as Ralph Lauren, Levi's, and John Varvatos have also outfitted stores from New York to San Francisco with of our salvaged pieces.
Military Seats
These aluminium chairs came from a 1940's military aircraft. They were designed and manufactured by Northrop-Grumman.
