Three years ago, if anyone had asked me what kind of yard I liked best, this
would have been my answer: "Drrrr. A pretty one?" Then I saw this
unbelievable transformation of a tiny, sad-looking Seattle lot into a
multicolored and multilayered urban oasis, and it was like "Bingo!" To
borrow from the story, I like the "formal structure combined with loose,
almost wild-looking plantings." Yeah, that's it. Oh, and the best part: the
homeowners got permission from the city to plant the barren strip between
the sidewalk and the curb. That little detail really makes the yard look so
much bigger, and it's a feature the entire neighborhood can enjoy.
