Every time I see the Goshen stone patio in this Manchester-by-the-Sea home, I pause to entertain a brief fantasy in which I own oceanfront property. It's a truly special space to still catch my eye as it does—while writing the article for the magazine, I combed through at least 100 photographs of it on at least a dozen occasions. There are stacks of gorgeous shots that we couldn't even use. The patio's massive stone slabs sit just feet from the Atlantic at high tide, and when the tide recedes and the inlet drains, the native stone blends with the craggy expanse of the shore. It's quite an image.
