Our 18-year-old house was built as part of a subdivision just east of Atlanta, Georgia. The goal was to finish our basement, creating a multi-purpose room where our three young boys could play by day and we could watch movies at night. Over the course of a few months, Neal thought through the layout, planning the speaker-wire and TV locations, built-in shelving, and audio-visual closet. He had the finished project in mind when he began working on it Thanksgiving weekend 2001 with the help of my father-in-law. Except for the carpet, we did 100 percent of the job themselves, with some extra muscle from our dads.
