Tool Test: Compound Miter Saws
"Chop saws" are the fastest, neatest, and most accurate way to cut wood to length. Called "compound" for their ability to cut a miter and a bevel at the same time, these 15-amp saws all have big, 12-inch blades that will sever stock with a single downward pull. Some tilt left (single bevel), others tilt both ways (dual bevel), a time-saver when cutting lots of crown molding. Carpenter John Fitzpatrick tested each saw with its stock blade on lumber and hardwood trim. Currently owner of J. Fitzpatrick Construction in Kerhonkson, New York, has 18 years' experience working as a carpenter. Here's his report.
