A: Tom Silva replies: There are a couple of different ways you can dye mortar. You can mix the mortar and then splash the dye on it once it's in place, but with this method the dye won't get very deep into the material. Or you can dye mortar at the time you're mixing it, which allows the color to mix completely throughout the material. If you're looking for a choice of colors, I'd recommend going to a cement or concrete yard and they ought to be able to give you more guidance. But I would think you should be able to find plenty of options for mixing, because I know offhand they use grays and blacks and reds and greens when using concrete stamps — so there are lots of different colors.
