Sydney Butler
For most of his 75 years, Mr. Butler has played drums. He's played with the best of New Orleans and then some. While his love of percussive music drives him on, it's the melody and song of his voice that intoxicated me and my camera.
Mr. Butler has lived in New Orleans his whole life and never left, “except for Katrina.” With the help of a patchwork of generous Southern souls, Mr. Butler was evacuated and shuttled from home to home in neighboring states.
But Mr. Butler is back. Using an old door casement as a drum, he bangs out time and pledges to rebuild for his family.
