Roll on the base coat, and allow it to dry for at least 24 hours. Meanwhile, create a template using the floorboards as a guide; this will do away with the need for chalk lines. The template used here fit within a 22-inch square and measured four floorboards across. The octagon cutout in the center was 13 inches across. The corner cutouts were 4 by 4 by 4 inches.
