Step 2: Attach the Top and Base

Cut two boards from 1 shelving to the width of the bookcase and to its depth plus the thickness of the shutters, plus ¼ inch for a reveal. Nail the boards to the top and bottom of the bookcase, flush with the back and sides.

    1. 1¼-inch brad nails to secure the top and bottom to the bookcase, and to trim the cabinet. If necessary, they will also be used to attach the header.

    3. Furniture feet. Get four.4. Magnetic door catch. Get two.

    5. H-hinges. Get four.

    6. Knobs. Get two.

    7. Primer-sealer. Get one quart.

    8. Paint. Get one quart in a satin or semigloss finish.
