Step 11: Notch the Feet

To make the notches in the skirtboards, first draw a parallel line 1½ inches from the bottom (unbeveled) edge. Then, using a combination square, draw 45-degree lines toward the center of the board, 3 inches in from each end, intersecting the parallel line. Use a jigsaw to cut out each notch. Sand the pieces smooth with 220-grit paper.

      3. ½-inch oak plywood for the floor. Get a 2-by-4-foot sheet.

      5. Torsion hinges

      6. 1-inch brad nails

      7. 1-inch deck screws

    8. 1½-inch deck screws

    9. 80-grit, 180-grit, and 220-grit sandpaper

    10. Stain and finish of your choice

    11. Wood glue
