Q: Can I hang indoor shutters on an aluminum double window without drilling into the aluminum? – Kathi, Sykesville, Maryland

A: Tom Silva replies: Without seeing the window firsthand, I'm afraid the answer is that it depends. There are a lot of variables. In general, if you want to hang interior shutters on an aluminum window and not touch the aluminum, the easiest thing is to build a frame onto the wall for the shutters to swing on — so you're not actually fastening them to the window itself, but to the wall.
